Mindfulness

Social Emotional Learning is the ability to accurately recognize one’s own emotions, thoughts, values,
and how they influence behavior. Mindfulness teaches self-love, inner resilience, and non-judgmental
awareness. It offers skills for nurturing and developing their heart, body, mind, and spirit. Research shows that practicing mindfulness raises test scores, reduces impulsivity, enhances well-being, and builds executive functioning in students. Being mindful is more than yoga, breathing, and meditation. It
is an awakening of awareness in ourselves and others. With mindfulness in our schools, we as a
community will exceed the need to educate, support, and develop the whole child.

Mindfulness~ The Fact vs. Myth

The Myth:  People who practice mindfulness through meditation and other avenues never get emotional or upset.

The Fact:  Mindfulness isn’t ignoring the negative emotional state by pretending that it doesn’t exist; it is acknowledging the present emotion without judgement and using self- regulating techniques to address it.

"We hired Cindy from Spread Your Wings, to complete a Self-Regulation and De-Escalation Workshop with our Active Minds organization members at Georgian Court University and it was just wonderful. She was so informative and interactive with the members. She talked about body scans, aromatherapy, meditation, breathing exercises, and so much more. She even showed us how to make glitter jars to help with mind distraction and stress reduction!"
